DEKALB, Ill. — Friday, Dec. 14, the historic Ellwood House Visitor Center will host a revitalized version of the event series “Borders Nite Out,” with a presentation of seasonal fashion modeling, local artists, an author signing and live music in “Borders Nite Out: Holiday Edition 2012.”
The event will showcase a group of 13 area fashion models, as well as five live music groups and an array of area artists that will be represented, along with author J.D. Gordon who will be signing copies of his book, Caribbean Calling.
The event will serve as a music tribute to folk artist Bob Dylan, with performances of his music by the musicians in the show.
The event will be hosted by Daniel Sherrill, Danielle Kinser, Amanda Chaplin and Kayla Kutella.
The Ellwood House event will serve to celebrate Borders Nite Out’s four-year anniversary of events in both Sycamore and DeKalb. Co-organizer Sherrill explained: “When the physical store closed in the spring of 2011, it left a door open to continue to collaborate with former staff members from not only our store, but others as well, for future events. The Charlies Angels event, which relaunched Borders Nite Out in September, exceeded our expectations, and we all still love sitting and writing events together, as we did in the café when the store was open.”
Borders Nite Out was set inside the café, but remained independent of Borders Inc. throughout its duration in the store.
The holiday edition of Borders Nite Out will also include three separate fashion presentations showcasing holiday outfits and will serve as a sequel to the fashion styles on display at the previous event in September, seeking to interlock both events with music, fashion and collaboration.
From December 2008 until the physical location closed on Sycamore Road, Borders Nite Out served as a monthly “couple’s night” in the store’s café, which featured live music, author signings and local artists. The series was relaunched in September at the Ellwood House Visitors Center, and will continue on a regular basis at the venue.
As with Charlies Angels Nite, Sherrill will again write the event and layout with former Borders café barista Jessica Arriaga, as well as other former crew members from the DeKalb store. Arriaga will also serve as the event series’ manager.
The cast for this edition of Borders Nite Out will include live music by The Bill Leighly Band, Danny Fox, Nathan Dettman, Chelsea Danielle and Mitch Munns with Rachael Cozzola. Special local vendors will include artists Danielle Kinser and Alex Canevello, as well as Aesthetic Pitch Photography by Chelsea Danielle and handmade jewelry by both Rachel Muller and Ashley Ney.
As he has done for the past four years as part of the series, Andy Hampton will read ’Twas the Night Before Christmas to the audience.
A special Borders Nite Out display will also be available with memorabilia and original event posters from the two-year run of the event series. Former Borders DeKalb employees and regulars will be making appearances throughout the event.
“Borders Nite Out: Holiday Edition” will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at the Ellwood House Visitors Center, 509 N. First St., DeKalb, Ill. Admission is $6 at the door.
