Rock Valley Children’s Choir’s ‘Holiday and Holy Days’ concert Dec. 14
The Rock Valley Children’s Choir (RVCC), in residence at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC) in Rockford, will present its 11th Annual “Holiday and Holy Days” Concert, titled “On the Last Month of the Year,” at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14.
The performance will be in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 406 N. Main St., in downtown Rockford. The church was recently purchased by the MPAC.
Admission is $10 per person with children younger than 10 admitted free. Tickets may be purchased by calling MPAC at (815) 964-9713, and will also be available at the door the night of the concert.
The beautiful voices of all four RVCC ensembles will blend in harmony as they sing songs that have relevance to specific dates in December, the last month of the year.
The RVCC, directed by Leah Baskin, is a performing and educational choral organization for youth in the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin area. The RVCC consists of four separate choruses encompassing grades one through 12, including Do-Re-Mi Singers (grades 1-3), Music Makers Chorus (grades 4-8), Crescendo Choir (grades 6-8, audition-based choir) and Encore! (grades 9-12).
The RVCC operates during the fall and spring semesters, on the same academic calendar as most local public schools. Each chorus rehearses once a week and participates in two concerts per semester, with opportunities for additional performances for the three older choirs.
In 2006, the RVCC formed a partnership with the MPAC. In fall 2012, the RVCC became the anchor group for the new Mendelssohn Music and Movement Education Center, downstairs in the MPAC building. Being a part of the downtown cultural corridor gives RVCC exciting new opportunities to grow and mature as musicians.
Since 1884, the MPAC has been a source of musical leadership and excellence for the residents of northern Illinois. MPAC, a non-profit organization at 415 N. Church St., Rockford, serves the community with a range of concerts, youth music programs and performing ensembles for all ages. Visit www.mendelssohnpac.org for more details.
