Without Shoes Modern Dance presents ‘The Polar Express’ Dec. 20

Staff Report

A public performance of Without Shoes Modern Dance Company’s presentation of The Polar Express will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at Rockford College’s Maddox Theatre, 5050 E. State St., Rockford.

The presentation, based on Chris Van Allsburg’s Caldecott Award-winning children’s story of the same name, tells the story of a boy who travels to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. The boy meets Santa Claus and is given the gift of choosing the first gift of Christmas. As a narrator reads Allsburg’s text, Without Shoes dancers present the action through dance.

Fifty children from the community and adults join forces to present this 45-minute performance.

Tickets for the Dec. 20 public performance are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

In addition to the Dec. 20 public performance, presentations for school and community groups will be offered at 9:30 and 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, and Thursday, Dec. 20. Those performances will also be held in Maddox Theatre. Tickets are $5 each.

Reserve tickets by contacting Maria E. Castello, artistic director, at withoutshoesmdc@hotmail.com or (815) 381-0084.
