Dr. Julia’s Inn: Building up your immune system naturally
By Dr. Julia Whipkey-Michniewicz, N.D.
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine
With cold and flu season now upon us, it is never too late to build your immune system. This past November was my 13th year of celebrating life. I will never forget that day after Thanksgiving getting the news from the nurse (note: on the phone) that I had breast cancer. I personally could not do the chemical therapy and radiation. I had cancer, and I was going to radiate and put chemicals in my system to bring my immune system down more? Does that make sense? Doesn’t it make sense to rebuild your immune system? Well, that is what I did, and I thank God every day for 13 beautiful years.
In my 13 years being cancer free, I have been blessed with meeting so many colleagues and other naturopathic professionals who have all had health issues as myself, and they chose to listen to their heart and treat their cancer naturally. I have put a lot of time and money into my education and time and money into purchasing alternative cancer equipment.
The most important system that is fighting for you is your lymphatic/immune system. Seventy percent of your immune system is in your gut, so gut health is so important. Probiotics, fiber oils, enzymes and whole foods are so important. This I cannot stress enough when I educate clilents on gut health. Our lymph system is a reflection of our gut health.
When I meet clients who are very ill, my protocol in my office that day is getting them in the hyperthermic chamber and flooding their oxygen-starved body with oxygen, cleaning their large intestine through colon hydrotherapy to remove waste, parasitic challenges and fecal matter, and putting them on the lymph machine to jump-start their lymphatic system. What is wonderful about this protocol is they feel so much better when they leave my office. They are leaving my office feeling better, renting a lymphatic machine and putting their health in their own hands. Before they leave my office, I suggest foods that they need to eat to rebuild their immune system, purchasing a juicer so they can make fresh organic juice at home, making sure they get fresh air, sunshine and exercising with the lymphatic machine.
I educate them on their medications and give them websites to go to so they can read about how their medications are harming more than helping. The cholesterol medication that they are on is removing valuable cholesterol from their brain. The high blood pressure medication that they are on is damaging their blood vessels. The TIA medication that they are on can cause blood clots to the brain. This information they can then give to their medical doctor to have their doctor help them get off these drugs. If their doctor will not work with them on this issue, then I have wonderful medical doctors in Madison that will help them.
Then, I educate them on over-the-counter products. Decongestants (pseudoepinephrine) are now kept behind the pharmacist’s counter. This can increase blood glucose levels and affect your insulin.
Cough syrup. This is nothing but sugar, and sugar brings your immune system down.
I have cold and flu baskets in my office. When you feel you are coming down with something, these items attack it hard and heavy. That is the secret, along with homemade organic chicken soup and getting to bed early.
My handicapped son, who is 31 years old, developed a blood clot on his upper thigh, and his medical doctor said it would NEVER go away and wanted to put him on Cumadin. I could not do this, for my father was put on this after he had a heart scare, and he fell and bled to death. I called Julia to have her come to our home and do an in-home massage. Julia came and brought her massage table and her lymphatic machine, and within 24 hours, the clot had softened, and within one week, the in-home nurse could not believe it was gone. — Donna W.
I help Julia whenever one of her girls takes a day off. While I was over at the office one day working, Julia offered her lymphatic machine for me to use. I have arthritis and scoliosis in the back. I could not believe how much better I felt using her machine for just five minutes that I decided to purchase one. When I received my machine in mid-September, I used the machine twice a day for 15 minutes. I had severe cramps in the middle of my back and realized I was using it too long and cut down my time to 10 minutes twice a day. As a result, my back did not cramp, and I began to gradually feel better after two weeks. My back feels much less tense, and I am pain free throughout the day. I am now feeling the middle of my back. I practice Mindful Meditation while using my lymphatic machine, and this helps me to further relax. I thought I would have to live with pain and tension for the rest of my life. Not true, after using my lymphatic machine. Thank you so much, Julia, for introducing me to this wonderful machine. — Gratefully yours, Maurine L.
