Beloit Fine Arts Incubator holds Open Studio for artists

Staff Report

BELOIT, Wis. — The Beloit Fine Arts Incubator, 520 E. Grand Ave., Beloit, Wis., will hold an Open Studio from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each Thursday evening beginning Jan. 10.

Artists of all levels of competency — from beginners to professionals — are welcome to bring a piece of art and supplies to work in a communal environment.

Each Thursday, a locally-known artist will be on hand to answer questions and explain different techniques in an informal setting. This is not meant to be a formal education experience, but rather a place to paint and network with others.

Among the artists will be oil and acrylic painter Dan Wutherich. Well-known locally for his innovative approach to art, Wutherich was educated at UWM and the Layton School of Art.

Other participating artists will be Robert Houck, formerly an art instructor at Beloit Memorial High School, who works extensively with watercolor; and Dean Folts, formerly trained at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, who is known for his portraits often in pastel.

Cost for the session will be $5 per evening. The Open Studio will be held at 520 E. Grand Ave., Beloit, Wis. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call (608) 313-9083, or just show up with supplies.

Open Studio Adult Pottery Class

Have you always wanted to learn how to make your own ceramic pottery? Beginning Jan. 7 through March 26, each Monday and Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., Susan Swedlund, a locally-known ceramist, will teach hand-building techniques and basic wheel-throwing techniques.

The eight sessions cost $125 and will include 25 pounds of clay (additional clay and glazes will cost extra).

Upon registration, participants will receive a punch card with eight stars. This enables participants to determine their own schedule and which nights they prefer to attend.

After completing the eight-session class, participants may attend any Monday or Tuesday night for an open working session for $10 an evening.

The classes will be at the Beloit Fine Arts Incubator, 520 E. Grand Ave., Beloit, Wis. For details, call Susan Swedlund at (608) 314-4092.
