Alice Saudargas faces objections in school board bid, hearing set for Jan. 9

A three-member Education Electoral Board will conduct a hearing at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, following objections to Rockford Board of Education candidate Alice Saudargas’ election petitions.
In accordance with state statute, the panel that will determine the validity of the objections consists of Harmon Mitchell as board president, Tim Rollins as board member and community member Paul Logli.
Objections to Saudargas’ petitions were filed by Julie Pick. School board candidates must submit petitions containing signatures of at least 50 registered voters in the subdistrict the candidates wish to represent. Under Illinois law, candidate petitions can be challenged if the signatures are invalid, were improperly gathered or other information on the petitions is incorrect.
The document detailing objections to Saudargas’ petitions may be viewed in person on the fourth floor of the Administration Building, 501 Seventh St. Requests for an electronic copy may be sent to Laura Fromm, recording secretary to the board: fromml@rps205.com.
The Jan. 9 hearing is in the third-floor board room of the Administration Building and is open to the public.
Saudargas is challenging incumbent board member Kenneth J. Scrivano, who represents Subdistrict C. Seats in all seven subdistricts are up for election April 9.
