County gets more than $3 million for floodways buyout

Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen (R) has announced that Winnebago County will receive $3,668,955 in grant funds from Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) for a voluntary property buyout program for property owners in designated floodways.

The grant money will be provided for two project areas. The first project area is Blackhawk Island, located near the Chicago-Rockford International Airport. The Blackhawk Island Project Area will receive $1,446,034 in grant money. The second project area is Edgemere Terrace, located near the Village of Roscoe. Edgemere Terrace will receive $2,222,921.

Jack Petersen, a consultant that specializes in community land acquisition services, will be working with Winnebago County Director of Development Services Jim Hughes and Winnebago County Cartographic Specialist Chris Dornbush on these projects. Property owners will be contacted by Jack Petersen.
