Creative Business class starts Jan. 22

Interested in having a business in the City Market this year? Publishing your first book? Want to make more money with your art? Join the class at the new Regional Design Center on Tuesday, Jan. 22, for the Creating the Creative Business class.
The class will be held from Jan. 22 until March 12 every Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the new Regional Design Center, 315 N. Main St., Rockford. The course costs $100 (including textbook); however, those who qualify as low income may take the class for no charge.
The instructor, Pamela Schallhorn, is CEO of New Urban Fitness and project manager for Shop Downtown Rockford. She has been working with entrepreneurs for more than 30 years and designed the class in 2010 to specifically reach “creatives” including artists, authors, botique retailers, designers and gourmet food producers. She has been on on the City Market Steering Committee since its inception, and past participants of her class include the owners of: Bella Luna Bakery, Pasta Cucina, Wood Fire Pizza; Socks-that-Rock, Kate’s Pie Shop, the author of Chicks Dig Guys That Cook and many more. She utilizes a unique right-brain teaching technique in her class that was adopted from the textbook The Creative Entrepreneur by Lisa Senora Beam.
Due to the support from the Rockford Housing Authority, those who qualify as low income may take the course for no charge. The course is also sponsored by The Element; Design Center Advisory Group; River District Association; Rockford Area Arts Council and the Rock River Development Partnership.
