Local groups rally on third anniversary of Citizens United

• Events set for Jan. 19 at library, federal courthouse

Northern Illinois PDA and the Occupy Rockford movement are co-hosting a “Democracy Is Not For Sale” event from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Rockford Public Library East Branch Community Room, 6685 East State St.
Following the presentation, the group will move to the Stanley J. Roszkowski U.S. Courthouse at 327 Church St. in downtown Rockford to protest the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling.
Jan. 21 is the third anniversary of the landmark Citizens United ruling in which the United States Supreme Court held that the First Amendment prohibited the government from restricting independent political expenditures by corporations and unions.
