Police in search of early-morning robbery suspect

Rockford police are in search of an armed robbery suspect who attempted to rob Walgreen’s, 2323 Charles St., and robbed Mobil Gas Station, 2605 Broadway, after 3 a.m., Jan. 17.
Police responded to Walgreen’s on Charles Street at about 3 a.m., Jan. 17. A man reportedly demanded a store manager open the cash drawer. However, the manager instead called police and the man fled before police could arrive.
At 3:19 a.m., police responded to a hold-up alarm at the Mobil Gas Station on Broadway. According to a clerk, a man whose description matched that of the suspect in the Walgreen’s incident entered the store with bags over his hands. The man said he was armed with a handgun, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. He fled westbound.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
The suspect was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with white lettering with a gray shirt sticking out from under the sweatshirt, faded jeans, and gray tennis shoes with white trim and laces. A black mask or handkerchief was used in both incidents.
