Two passengers die in one-vehicle crash on South Winnebago in Rockford

Rockford police responded to a one-car crash in the 900 block of South Winnebago Street in Rockford at around 1:43 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19. Upon arrival, it was learned that a car occupied by three adult females traveled south on South Winnebago Street when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The two passengers, 20-year-old Shakiyla Ellis and 23-year-old Desiree Mannery, both of Rockford, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital. The traffic crash is under investigation.
