ComEd opens Rockford training facility

ComEd will host the official grand opening of its state-of-the-art training and education facility, 123 Energy Ave., Rockford, Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Featuring indoor and outdoor training space and major innovations including a mock substation, the new facility demonstrates ComEd’s commitment to train the next generation of workers and better service customers with a fully modernized electric grid.
The facility includes indoor and outdoor pole training yards with indoor catwalk, 30-foot utility poles and a 28-foot transmission tower; a full-size manhole rescue station; a tower rescue station; indoor and outdoor mock substation training areas with remote power disconnection safety features; and meter displays and storm/outage management tools.
Commonwealth Edison Company is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation, the nation’s leading competitive energy provider, with approximately 6.6 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population.
