Local gym, restaurant team up to promote healthy living
Jan. 11, Rockford’s FitMe Wellness and Octane InterLounge announced their new menu geared toward the improved health and wellness of the Rockford community.
Starting Jan. 21, anyone dining at Octane (124 N. Main St., Rockford) — FitMe members and non-members alike — will be able to order healthy items off Octane’s new FitMe Menu.
“We have members who are here day in and day out, burning calories and working hard at their own health and wellness,” said Greg Georgis, owner of FitMe Wellness. “It occurred to me that we should be doing all we can to make healthy options available for them to consume less calories while eating more delicious food.”
Georgis said the decision to expand FitMe’s healthy reach is part of his personal commitment to improving the health and wellness of the Rockford community.
This new menu is built on an existing foundation of ensuring his members have access to the best foods the region has to offer.
Earlier in 2012, FitMe Wellness created a partnership with Hazzard Free Farms to deliver fresh organic veggies to FitMe members every Thursday afternoon. This program with Hazzard re-launches in spring 2013.
“Our members are working every day to improve their health by moving more at our club,” said Georgis, “but it’s equally important to ensure that our members are eating better as well. If we can provide a better path into a healthier lifestyle, then that is a step in the right direction.”
To complement the new menu offering from Octane, FitMe is also offering classes with a certified nutritionist to support you in your health and wellness goals. These seminars are for members only, with memberships starting at $29.95, and no charge to join the club. FitMe Wellness is at 2595 N. Mulford Road, Rockford.
Octane InterLounge has been a downtown dining destination since 1997. Owners Daniel and Michelle Minick and Head Chef Patrick Alberto, in collaboration with Georgis and the FitMe nutritionist, created the FitMe menu, which is a key component in Octane’s total menu redesign for 2013. Diners who order off the FitMe Menu will receive an introductory one-week membership to FitMe Wellness, valid until March 30.
“Partnering with FitMe Wellness to share our healthy, delicious and innovative food to even more members of the Rockford community is a bold step to further realizing Octane’s mission to add new meaning to people’s lives,” said Daniel Minick. “Partnering with FitMe, and developing the FitMe menu, makes it even easier for people to make healthier choices when dining — and that creates a more vibrant life. As we make healthier choices the norm for more Rockford residents, our entire community benefits.”
