Driver faces charges in Jan. 19 crash that left two passengers dead

Antavia S. McGee, 21, of Rockford, has been charge with six counts of aggravated driving under the influence (DUI) causing death, six counts of reckless homicide and four counts of aggravated DUI for a Jan. 19 one-car accident that left passengers Shakiyla Ellis, 20, and Desiree Mannery, 23, both of Rockford, dead.

Aggravated DUI causing death is a class 2 felony, reckless homicide is a class 3 felony and aggravated DUI is a class 4 felony.

The crash occurred in the 900 block of South Winnebago Street in Rockford at around 1:43 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19. When police arrived at the scene, they learned a car occupied by three adult females traveled south on South Winnebago Street when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

Ellis and Mannery were pronounced dead at the scene. McGee was transported to a local hospital and released Jan. 24.
