Two arrested for attempted robbery of abandoned business on Kishwaukee

Rockford police responded to a burglary in progress at an abandoned business at 422 Kishwaukee St., Rockford, just before noon, Thursday, Jan. 24.

Two people had reportedly crawled through the window of the abandoned business, dragging a ladder through the window behind them.

The suspects — Felipe B. Hernandez, 30, and Robert P. Rees, 47 — were arrested by police near the intersection of Fifth Street and Fifth Avenue after they had left the building.

Police discovered the ladder had been used to reach an electrical box that had been pried away from the wall.
