CROP Hunger Walk to present $13,000 to local food pantries at Jan. 27 event
Online Staff Report
Rockford Area CROP Hunger Walk will present a check for $13,000 to local food pantries at a free event open to the public at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27. The event will be at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road, Rockford.
CROP Hunger Walk raises money to fight hunger both locally and globally. In 2012, the CROP Hunger Walk (in October 2012) raised more than $52,000, which is a record. A check for $13,215.20 will be presented to the Rockford Area Food Pantry Coalition, which is 25 percent of the total raised. The rest is used by the global humanitarian agency Church World Service to respond to disasters in the U.S. and around the world, and to implement self-help development programs among the world’s poorest people.
The public is invited to join in celebration (and delicious homemade desserts and ice cream) at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, at Christ United Methodist Church. RSVP to the Rev. David Jones by calling (815) 540-3703.
The program will include thanking the 42 religious congregations for their donations and for joining in the walk. Julia Jones, associate director for Church World Service, will tell about the work your money is accomplishing, including sharing the premiere of the PBS Visionaries program featuring CROP.
