Folk/country singer/songwriter Michael Johnson at New Mendelssohn Hall Feb. 3 for Charlotte’s Web Concert Series
Online Staff Report
The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s next Charlotte’s Web performance with Michael Johnson will take place at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3, at the New Mendelssohn Hall (formerly First Presbyterian Church), 406 N. Main St., Rockford.
Johnson, who started playing at age 13, has performed more music and recorded more hits than you would imagine. His voice immediately identifies him as the man who sings “Bluer Than Blue,” “Give Me Wings,” “That’s That” and other landmark songs. His music shows a diversity, depth and heart that only comes from years of dedication to a labor of love. When asked what he would have you know about himself, Johnson simply said: “Tell them that I love it.”
Johnson is praised by the Chicago Daily Tribune as, “… a masterful guitarist who can pull off some amazing stunts with such incredible nonchalance that he doesn’t seem quite human.”
What one remembers of Johnson is the texture of his voice, the meaning of the lyric and the music of the guitar — singer, song and sound.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. To purchase tickets, either go online at www.mendelssohnpac.org, or call (815) 964-9713.
