Teen involved in Feb. 5 crash found in possession of drugs, cash and stolen rifle

At approximately 9:27 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, an Illinois State Police trooper witnessed a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Seminary Street and Blackhawk Park Avenue in Rockford.
A silver Pontiac and red Dodge van were involved in the crash. The 16-year-old male driver of the Pontiac attempted to flee from the scene of the crash on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, the juvenile was taken into custody by the trooper.
The driver of the Dodge received minor injury and was transported to a local hospital. The juvenile was found to be in possession of more than 34 grams of cocaine, .3 grams of heroin, 12 grams of cannabis, more than $600 cash and a Smith and Wesson M&P15-22 semi-automatic rifle. The weapon was loaded and was reported stolen to the Rockford Police Department in 2011.
Troopers arrested and charged the juvenile with possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis and possession of a stolen firearm.
Officers from the Rockford Police Department investigated the crash.
