Angelic Organics offers winter classes for kids, adults

CALEDONIA, Ill. — The veggie fields are still resting under the light blanket of snow, but there are many opportunities to learn new skills and have adventures at Angelic Organics Learning Center, 1547 Rockton Road, Caledonia, Ill., this winter.
Kids can spend time with the farm animals and be a part of living history through the new Winter Farm Pioneer classes. Adults can participate in soap-making, yoga classes or learn how to use permaculture design to create an edible landscape in their yards. Registration is open at www.learngrowconnect.org.
Classes for adults
Designing A Sustainable Revolution: An Introduction to Permaculture, Feb. 9, 1-5:30 p.m. — Learn the basic ideas, ethics and principles of Permaculture, a method for designing sustainable human landscapes using the patterns of nature in urban, suburban and rural settings. Cost is $60.
Soap-Making Workshop, Feb. 16, 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. — Learn to make a wonderful and gentle soap using goat’s milk. Goats provide the milk and a veteran soapmaker explains the process and facilitates the hands-on soapmaking. Everyone will make several bars of soap to bring home. Cost is $60.
Yoga On The Farm (Wednesday Series), Feb. 20-May 8, 4:30-5:30 p.m. — Enjoy a one-hour dynamic yoga class in the relaxing farm environment. Beginners welcome. Bring a yoga mat. Note: This program runs at the same time as the Wednesday afterschool programs for kids. Cost is $100 for the series.
Programs for kids
Preschoolers! Farm Animals, Feb. 15, 10-11:30 a.m. — Visit Angelic Organics Learning Center for this farming series especially designed for preschoolers and their caregivers. Help the crew do the animal chores as you meet livestock, care for pregnant goats and gather eggs from the chickens. Wear clothes and boots suitable for outside work. Registration is per child, ages 2 to 5. Cost is $15.
Winter Farm Pioneers, Feb. 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. — What would a pioneer child do in late winter? Help care for the livestock, learn outdoor skills like fire-building, outdoor cooking and make a winter craft. Bring a sack lunch. First grade and older. Cost is $40.
Afterschool Fun on the Farm: Winter Pioneers (Wednesday Series), Feb. 20-March 13, 4:15-5:45 p.m. — Visit the farm after school on Wednesdays to participate in living history. See what the livestock are up to in the winter and help care for them, learn pioneer skills and crafts. Note: This program runs at the same time as the Yoga on the Farm series for adults. Cost is $40.
