Staff Report

Crossroads Blues Society (CBS) had to cancel the Hurricane Sandy Benefit and Blues in the Schools (BITS) events originally scheduled for Jan. 27-28 because of slick travel conditions, but they have added the benefit to the evening show already planned for Monday, Feb. 11.

That night, the Braille Blues Daddy Bryan Lee and the Blues Power Band will be featured at 7 p.m. at the Byron Middle School Theater, 850 N. Colfax St., Byron, Ill.

Doors to the event will open at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but donations to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts will be accepted. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

A 50-50 raffle and silent auctions will be held, as will a cigar box guitar raffle. The guitar was provided by Randy and Todd from Hardtime Cigar Box Guitars. Bryan and the Band are appearing at McNair Elementary School in Winnebago, Ill., and at Byron Middle School during the day.

Bryan was the headline act at the 2011 Byron Crossroads Blues Festival and is an internationally acclaimed performer. He and his band are one of the blues world’s top acts. He was a Grammy nominee along with Kenny Wayne Shepherd for their Live in Chicago album in 2010, and won a 2011 Blues Music Award for that CD in the “Best Blues Rock Album” category.

Crossroads is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that raises funds to support their Blues In the Schools programs. This event supports Hurricane Sandy relief through 12-12-12/The Robin Hood Foundation. A portion of the proceeds will also go toward the Blues Hall of Fame Capital Campaign as part of a three-year commitment to help get a Blues Hall of Fame Museum built in Memphis, Tenn.
