Klehm offers families ‘A Fresh Look at Winter’ Feb. 9

Staff Report

Rockford’s Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, 2715 S. Main St., Rockford, will offer “A Fresh Look at Winter” as part of Klehm Family Days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9.

This winter, families are invited to engage with nature at Klehm. On the second Saturday of each month, Klehm will offer themed activities for kids of all ages. Families will find fun ways to learn about nature outdoors through hikes, scavenger hunts and guided tours.

In February, the Family Day theme is “A Fresh Look at Winter.” Snow’s not the only reason nature is beautiful and interesting in winter. There are many colorful plants, interesting trees and plant features that are hidden by leaves in summer.

To encourage discoveries, kids will be given the supplies for a scavenger hunt to find some of these interesting plants. At each location, they will pick up supplies to make a mosaic craft in the Visitor’s Center.

Beginning at noon, members from the Rockford Photography Club will host a guided photography walk for the whole family. Join them as they offer advice on techniques and answer questions from participants. During and after the walk, guests can warm up in the Visitor’s Center Gallery with hot cocoa or coffee. No registration required.

Cost for the Feb. 9 event is $10 per family.
