Kudo's to the Illinois Sheriffs Association and also the NationalAssociation or speaking out. They represent our officer's on the frontline and deal with gun violence and it is refreshing to see them speak out against the real problem and not buy into the smoke and mirror solutions being proposed by politicians to garner votes.

Their statement supports our constitutional and states that we need to concentrate on mental health and not the firearms owned by our law abiding citizens.

Recently NBS published an article that
 e article states, “If you only want to know how many people are killed by guns on an average day in America, simply divide the annual figure, about 31,300, by 365 days, and there's your average: about 86 people a day.”

Well, lets put that in perspective. Consider these yearly and daily statistics:

Auto crashes - We have 5,419,000 annually resulting in 32,885 deaths or 90 per day and 2,239,000 injuries or 6,134 per day;

Alcohol related deaths – 75,000 annually or 205 per day;

Drug related deaths – 1,705,000 annually or 4,671 per day;

Medical malpractice deaths – 195,000 per year or 534 per day.

And let’s bear in mind that of the 86 deaths per day by firearms includes suicides, or killed in the commission of a crime.

It just appears to me that we would be much safer if we kept our firearms and avoided driving a car, using drugs or alcohol or going to see a Doctor
