Dr. Lipsky to resign as regional dean of U of I College of Medicine

After nearly 10 years of dedicated service, Martin Lipsky, M.D., regional dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, has announced his resignation.
Eager to join his wife, Darice Zabak, M.D., in Portland, Ore., he looks forward to continuing his career through teaching and consulting.
“I love my job, but nothing is more important than family,” said Dr. Lipsky.
Campus achievements during Dr. Lipsky’s deanship include a new regional College of Pharmacy, a new master’s degree program in medical biotechnology, the development of MERIT, a program to address the issue of child abuse in our region, the first endowed professorships, and the completion of a 58,000-square-foot renovation and expansion project on the campus.
In addition, despite the difficulties of a challenging economy, educational and research programs continue to produce outstanding graduates and cutting-edge research.
As result of several successful community partnerships and collaborations, the profile of the College of Medicine at Rockford has been heightened in the community.
The search is under way for a new regional dean. An announcement will be made in early March. Dr. Lipsky’s last day will be March 7.
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford is at 1601 Parkview Ave., and has served the area since 1971 as a regional academic health science center.
