Lincoln’s Ball at Rockford’s Memorial Hall Feb. 23
By Jon McGinty
This year marks the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and the third year of the American Civil War. To commemorate both events, Battery G, Illinois Light Artillery (a local re-enactment group) is again hosting a Lincoln’s Ball at Rockford’s Veterans Memorial Hall Saturday, Feb. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend.
The Century Air Minstrels from St. Charles, Ill., will provide Civil War-era music, while callers John and Elaine Mascaile from Palatine, Ill., will furnish dance instruction. Guests are encouraged to wear Civil War-era clothing, but modern dress is also acceptable. Cameras are welcome at this colorful event, and vintage backdrops will be available for guests to create their own formal period photographs.
Many famous people of the era are expected to attend the Ball, including President and Mrs. Lincoln (aka Max and Donna Daniels from Wheaton, Ill.), who promise to speak to the assembled crowd. Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening.
Admission to the Ball is a voluntary donation of $10, and tickets will be available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. For more info, contact Gayle at (815) 980-4724 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or Dan at (815) 980-9494 or email@example.com. The Battery G website is www.batteryg.org.
