Two brothers arrested on drug trafficking charges

A few months ago, members of the Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit received information that a subject named Scottie Valentine Jr., 25, was involved with selling cocaine. Upon receiving this information, the Rockford Narcotics Unit, along with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), began an investigation.

The investigation concluded Tuesday, Feb. 19, when Scottie Valentine Jr. was taken into custody after a brief foot chase in the 1400 block of Stoney Creek Way.

Scottie Valentine’s brother, Marktavis D. Valentine, 22, was also taken into custody on the scene.

As a result of the investigation, detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at the apartment on Stoney Creek Way where both Valentines were residing. During the search, detectives recovered more than 540 gross grams of cocaine, other items associated with drug trafficking and two handguns. One of the handguns was reported stolen out of Rockford, and the other was reported stolen out of Knoxville, Tenn.

Scottie Valentine has been charged with possession with intent to deliver 400-900 grams of cocaine, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, resisting a peace officer, possession of stolen property and a city warrant for three counts of delivery of cocaine. Bond has yet to be set.

Marktavis Valentine has been charged with possession with intent to deliver 100-400 grams of cocaine, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of stolen property and resisting a peace officer. Bond has yet to be set.

The Valentine brothers are being held at Winnebago County Jail.
