Three teens arrested following attempted armed robbery where shots were fired

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., Feb. 21, members of the Rockford Police Department responded to the area of Belmont and Normandy in reference to shots fired. Upon arrival, officers met with the victims, who advised they were victims of an attempted armed robbery where a shot was fired. A description was broadcast of the suspects and suspect vehicle.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located in the 3500 block of Latham Street. A perimeter was set up, and the suspects were located hiding in a shed in the area. During the investigation, a quantity of a substance believed to be cannabis was recovered.

Follow up investigation was conducted into the incident. The following suspects were arrested and charged with the following:

Jaleel Lake, 17, Rockford — Attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery and mob action;

Donquez D. Ashford, 18, of Rockford — Attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery and mob action; and

James Watkins, 19, of Rockford — Attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery, mob action and possession with the intent to deliver cannabis.
