Animal Services offers spay neuter vouchers through Feb. 28

Online Staff Report

Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) will participate in World Spay Day Monday-Thursday, Feb. 25-28, by offering spay neuter vouchers for $50 each. This special offer is limited to the first 50 Winnebago County residents who purchase a voucher for their cat or dog. Vouchers can be purchased during normal business hours, and the shelter is open until 7 p.m. on Mondays.

There are no income requirements, and the $50 vouchers are limited to one per household. Simply bring proof of a current rabies vaccination and county registration tag, plus a photo ID showing you are a Winnebago County resident.

WCAS also offers vouchers to low-income residents for $20 per voucher. Residents must show proof of income as an additional requirement. The low-income program is available year-round.

Spaying and neutering saves pets’ lives and reduces the number of animals that come into our facility,” said Jennifer Stacy, deputy director at Animal Services.

In 2012, WCAS performed more than 1,300 spay or neuter surgeries on adoptable animals in the community, issued almost 700 spay neuter vouchers to low-income county residents, as well an additional 50 vouchers during the Spay Day promotion last February.

World Spay Day is an international campaign of The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International to promote the life-saving benefits of spaying and neutering.
