Rockford’s nonprofit Irish Marching Society (IMS) will present the St. Patrick’s Day Parade beginning at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 16. Spectators are urged to begin lining up at around 2 p.m.
Parade route is from BMO Harris Bank on Seventh Street to East State Street, west to Main Street, then south to the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Following the parade, the IMS will present the 36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party in the Wallingford Ballroom of the Best Western Clock Tower Resort and Conference Center, 7801 E. State St., Rockford.
Doors to the party will open at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy Irish entrees including Irish Lamb Stew, Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Chocolate Whiskey Cake. Kids’ meals will also be available.
The party will feature entertainment from the City of Rockford Pipe Band, Irish and Scottish Dancers, A Celtic Voice with Mary Cate Cichock, Gaelic Fury Irish Pub Music and Rockabilly Band Dirty Fishnet Stockings. A special children’s area will be open from 5 to 7 p.m., with games and crafts. Admission is included with an IMS membership or $10 at the door. Children younger than 14 are admitted free.
The IMS has been hosting a parade and party celebrating St. Patrick and the Irish culture in the city of Rockford for the past 36 years. The nonprofit organization gives the proceeds to local charities. Visit www.irishmarchingsociety.com for more details.
