Rockford school board forum March 19 at Sullivan Center

Candidates running for a seat on the Rockford Board of Education will participate in a forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, at the downtown Sullivan Center (formerly New American Theater), 118 N. Main St.

The forum is presented by Next Rockford and sponsored by the Rockford Register Star in partnership with the Rockford Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters Greater Rockford.

All school board candidates have been invited to attend; only those in contested races will participate in the on-stage forum.

Contested races include the following:

Sub District A — Lisa Jackson (incumbent) and Dion Simpson;

Sub District E — Michael D. Harner and Kim Mullins;

Sub District F — Jeffery A. Holt Jr., Michael Connor and Juan Reyes; and

Sub District G — Jaime Escobedo and Laura J. Powers (incumbent).

Panelists will be from the Rockford Register Star and Next Rockford, a group of about 75 Gen X and Gen Y professionals. Community members can submit question and topic suggestions via the Next Rockford Facebook page and on the Next Rockford blog at www.rrstar.com.
