Two parolees face series of charges relating to armed robberies at The Happy Store, Reingold Computer Exchange and U.S. Post Office

Two parolees arrested for a series of armed robberies in the Broadway and Seventh Street area in Rockford now face further charges.
Jerome Pruitt, 28, of Rockford, on parole from Cook County for a narcotics violation, and Victor D. Petty, 21, of Rockford, on parole from Peoria County for theft and obstructing justice, face charges relating to incidents that occurred between March 12 and March 15 at The Happy Store, 1514 Broadway; Reingold Computer Exchange, 1224 Broadway; and the U.S. Post Office, 1140 Broadway.
Pruitt has been charged with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery in relation to the March 14 incident at Reingold Computer Exchange, and attempted armed robbery in relation to the March 15 incident at the U.S. Post Office.
Petty has been charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery in relation to the March 14 incident at Reingold Computer Exchange; attempted armed robbery in relation to the March 15 incident at the U.S. Post Office; and attempted murder and aggravated battery in relation to the March 12 incident at The Happy Store.
A 42-year-old Rockford man suffered multiple stab wounds in the incident at Reingold Computer Exchange, while the March 12 incident at The Happy Store left a 69-year-old man in critical condition. The Happy Store victim was found inside the shop at around 4:34 p.m., and it is believed he had been battered an hour before he was found.
The Happy Store was also robbed Sept. 28, 2012. In that robbery, three men entered the business, one of whom pointed a long, black revolver at the owner while the others took an undisclosed amount of money and fled.
Both suspects are being held at Winnebago Count Jail.
