Rockford police report increase in panhandling

Online Staff Report

The Rockford Police Department has seen an increase in reported panhandling in all areas of the city. Areas include the northwest side, far east side and downtown.

The Rockford Police Department encourages citizens not to give money to panhandlers because this only encourages further behavior. If you wish to make donations, give to organizations that have proven to assist the homeless and those in need.

Police encourage citizens to report panhandling, especially those in and near traffic areas, since this poses danger to life and property.
