The community is invited to join regional musician, Professor Carl A. Cole, for two special “Jazzin’ it Up” spring concert and CD release celebrations of April as national “Jazz Appreciation Month.”
The first event will feature “COLE and Company,” with Carl Cole (piano and vocals), his wife Dianna (vocals), his son Andrew (drums and bass) and his brother Clyde Cole (guitar) as well as “Maestro” Robert Werntz Sr. (trumpet and flugelhorn) and Alan Fleming (drums). Special guest “Poet Laureate” will be his Mother, Ms. Erma L. Cole (Illinois State magazine historic mother of the renown “Singing Coles” family group of the 1960s), sharing her original poems in celebration of April as National Poetry Month.
The Coles’ new album, titled “ALL of Me,” will be available, as well as a CD of “Mom” Cole’s poetry titled A Way With Words.
This gala will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at the Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, 2525 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, Ill. The concert will be free to the public.
The second gala will be at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 27, at Franchesco’s Ristorante, 7128 Spring Creek Road, Rockford. That gala will feature Dianna Cole, Jodi Beach and Jim McDowell, and Bob Lamay and the “CADENCE” Barbershop Quartet! The evening will pay tribute to Rockford legend “Maestro” Bill Doll and Chicago Legend Julian Swain. Cost is $15 at the door (including a complimentary glass of wine). Reserve your table today!
