Find Your Space: Spring has sprung at Womanspace!
By Liz Kulevich

The weather is finally warm enough to get outside and stretch our legs with some great events and programs!
April 14, from 1 to 5 p.m. in our Anjali Pavilion, Dr. Ruthellen Josselson, professor of clinical psychology at The Fielding Graduate University in Baltimore, co-author of Best Friends: The Pleasures and Perils of Girls’ and Women’s Friendships and speaker at this year’s Spring Luncheon, will lead a workshop in which we can deeper explore our friendships and how we navigate the good times and bad. Great for women and girls of all ages, this workshop can help mothers use their own experiences to counsel their daughters as they navigate the often-perilous period of adolescence.
April 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., we welcome award-winning filmmaker Isadora Gabrielle Leidenfrost to screen her documentary, Things We Don’t Talk About: Stories from the Red Tent, in the Anjali Pavilion. Visit www.redtentmovie.com for more about Isadora and the Red Tent Movement.
And don’t forget to mark your calendars for World Labyrinth Day May 4! Join us at Womanspace from 1 to 3 p.m. and with people “walking as one at one” on labyrinths around the globe on this day. We’ll have a presentation and discussion about labyrinths and then move on to our own labyrinth, where you will be encouraged to utilize it for its healing, releasing and renewal powers!
Of course, you can always come experience the healing powers of Yoga Flow with Keri Knutson every Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. and evening from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. If you’ve ever wondered about the benefits of Reflexology, our Lunch & Learn April 17 from noon to 1 p.m. will teach you methods for reducing stress and pain and balancing the functions of the body.
Help yourself with life’s questions and transitions by creating your own deck of cards through a SoulCollageâ session April 20. Kanwal Prashar will take us back to his native India as he presents The Story of Mother India in verse April 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
We’ve also got some programs especially for the kids. April 19 is Movie Night with The Journey of Natty Gann. We’ll watch the movie, enjoy pizza and other snacks, discuss the movie and play some games! The next day from 10 to 11:30 a.m. is Money Talks, an informative program that teaches kids about money and how to make it work for them. Money Talks is put on in association with Money Smart Week.
And, of course, there’s the art! Figure Drawing: Study the Model is designed for sketchers and artists of all abilities to learn more about drawing the human figure. Classes are held April 10, 17 and 24 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Attend one or all! David Hockney, a British-born creative artist, is the subject of our April 11 Art Lecture with Dorothy Bock. Join us from noon to 1:30 p.m. We are also offering a Family Artshop this month April 27 when we will learn how to construct Thai Spirit Bird Houses to ward off mischievous celestial spirits!
We invite all area clay artists to participate in a Community Raku Firing with us April 27 from noon to 5 p.m. You don’t have to be a member or have taken a class at Womanspace. Just bring two bisque-fired pieces of claywork less than 6 inches in diameter (or one large piece). We will discuss the process of raku, then glaze and fire!
