Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 N. Main St., Rockford, is celebrating the end of its exhibit, “Rick’s Picks: A Lifelong Affair with Guitars and Music,” in true Cheap Trick fashion with a music and fun-filled encore weekend April 13-14.
Burpee’s Rockin’ Weekend will feature a live performance by Miles Nielsen Saturday night, silent auction including “Rick’s Picks” items, live auction of “Rick’s Pick” memorabilia and an autograph session with Rick Nielsen Sunday evening.
The exhibit, which opened Aug. 11, tells the 40-year story of one of the hardest-working stars in rock ’n’ roll, legendary Cheap Trick guitar player and songwriter Rick Nielsen.
Saturday, April 13, features Miles Nielsen on the “Rick’s Picks” stage. Doors open at 6 p.m., and Miles Nielsen takes the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door and appetizers from Giovanni’s and a cash bar will be available. A silent auction opens at 6 p.m., Saturday and continues through Sunday.
Sunday, April 14, is the Final Encore from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $20, and autograph line tickets are $10 (purchase of an autograph line ticket does not guarantee an autograph from Rick Nielsen). Silent auction from Saturday night continues, and attendees will have the opportunity to bid on “Rick’s Picks” memorabilia in a once-in-a-lifetime live auction. Appetizers from Toni’s of Winnebago and a cash bar will be available.
It’s not too late to experience this truly jaw-dropping multimedia exhibit featuring many dozens of guitars belonging to Rick (and his celebrity friends like Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, Slash of Guns ’N’ Roses, Todd Rundgren and more), thousands of pieces of rock memorabilia, and amazing audio treats and video eye candy.
