Staff Report

From 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 3, Minglewood and Plush, both at 510 E. State St., will present a special evening celebrating a local fusion of style, beauty and artistry set against the unique features of Rockford’s own downtown: “Downtown Rockford — 510 Style,” an urban fashion photography exhibit. Admission is free.

Six beautiful local women, 18 gorgeous fashion styles and one incredibly talented photographer showcase a vibrant Rockford alive at its core. This is a story of Rockford’s real beauty — born and created right here in Rockford. The photos were taken from the rooftop of Plush, the Haight Village neighborhood, various locations around South Main and Morgan Street, as well as the Jefferson Street Bridge area and at the Prairie Street Brewhouse.

I am astonished at the wonderful outcome of this project,” said Karen Elyea, Minglewood Boutique owner and Ward 11 alderman.

What started as a way to sell more dresses has turned into a breathtaking testament to the hopes, dreams and will of post-industrial Rockford. These photos are just too good for a simple ad campaign. You’ve really got to see them all.”

Sandi Kohn, Plush Boutique owner, added: “The exhibition reflects Rockford’s outer radiance by combining the beauty of its citizens, landmarks and businesses and raw talent of its people. It’s amazing how this marketing campaign quickly progressed into an artistic statement of all of our possibilities. The end result is exactly what I wanted to accomplish, but so much more.”

Brian Milo, the photographer, is a life-long resident of the area and works full-time as a documentary wedding photographer. His ultimate goal as a photographer is to capture the soul of the person he is photographing and leave a frozen moment of the present time for the future generations.

I’m looking forward to the show!” Milo said. “This was a really fun ad campaign. It allowed me to mix a little bit of street photography with fashion.”

Models include Britney Lindgren, Kellie Sweeney, Anna Rinaldo, Tessa Mollet, Emily Branscomb and Elisha Williams.
