Find Your Space: Strengthen body, mind at Womanspace

May is a big month for us at Womanspace! We’ve got some great special events this month, as well as an assortment of programs to educate you and get your creative juices flowing!
Let’s start with those events. This Friday, May 10, is National Public Gardens Day. We will be giving tours of the gardens and labyrinth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. While you’re here visiting, create a cement casting of a real leaf to add to your own garden for just $10!
Next up is the opening of our Star Student/Teacher Exhibit in our William Reif Gallery (sponsored by David Boccione of Ameriprise Financial), where we’ll show off the talent of our teachers and their students in a variety of mediums. We’ll host an opening reception Friday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for a first look!
An upcoming event we’re very excited about is our StrengthsFinder workshop, based on the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment. Jo Ann Miller, a Gallup consultant for nearly 40 years, will help teams and individuals leverage their natural talents and strengths for a more satisfying career or a more effective team. The workshop will take place Saturday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
One of our favorite events is coming up at the end of May and that’s our annual Glitzy Garage Sale held May 31-June 2 (sponsored by the Law Offices of Jim Black and Associates)! More like a mega-sale, Glitzy will feature 15 departments, including an air-conditioned boutique featuring designer clothing, jewelry and accessories, plus much more! We’re currently accepting donations until May 28. Visit http://www.womanspace-rockford.org for information about acceptable donations.
Aside from those events, we have some great opportunities for you to educate yourself on various topics. Our EarthMatters group will meet Wednesday, May 8, from noon to 1:15 p.m. to learn about native plants, habitat and wildlife. The following Thursday, May 9, our own Dorothy Bock will host an Art Lecture about the History of Public Art from noon to 1:30 p.m. We’ve got two great Lunch & Learns coming up (sponsored by Sandra Slaga, Attorney at Law). Wednesday, May 15, you’ll learn how to leverage your expertise to Birth that Book! Wednesday, June 5, we’ll learn Facebook 101.
We believe it’s never to early or late to start taking control of your own health and wellness. Our Women’s Wellness Hours, which start Wednesday, May 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., will help you to strengthen your core muscles for better posture and control and gain more awareness of your own body. Our SoulCollage class Saturday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, will help you gain access to your own intuition, while helping you with life’s questions. And, did you know that playing the harp can be good for you? Harp for Healing and Relaxation, starting Thursday, June 13, will prove just that as you feel the string’s vibrations working their way through your body to your inner-most soul.
We’ve got some great creative arts classes this month, as well, of course. Intermediate Clayworks begins Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Create your own jewelry and pendants in our Creative Adornments class Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. You can make a whole line of jewelry in our Clay Beads — Wearable Works of Art class, which starts Tuesday, May 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
There’s plenty for the kids, too! They can create a beautiful pendant lampshade out of those plastic shopping bags you can’t get rid of in our Eco-Artshop this Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. Just in time for Mother’s Day! If you’ve got a budding photographer at home, you’ve got to sign them up for Digital Photography at Anderson Gardens Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. We also host a Children’s Art Camp for ages 7-10 June 10-13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Our Tween Art Camp is the following week; June 17-20 from 9 a.m. to noon with an Afternoon Fun Camp from 1 to 4 p.m.
