John Bishoff, Ron Holm, Janel Nelson and Ken Druetzler bring their “In Dreams” Roy Orbison retrospective to Clock Tower Inn’s Tempo Bistro at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 25.
When asked how he developed his uncanny ability to emulate Orbison’s style, Holm replied: “I learned much of my music as a child by singing along with Roy Orbison records. I, like millions of other folks, was captivated by Roy’s intimate, vulnerable and unique vocal style. If I sound like Roy, it’s not because I try to mimic him. I’m just tapping into my earliest musical recollections and impressions.”
A high point for both Holm and Bishoff came in 1982, when their band opened for Orbison at a concert. Their “In Dreams” retrospective incorporates music that influenced Orbison and original music composed in Orbison’s style.
The $5 admission charge for the event will be waived for patrons who order dinner by 6:30 p.m. Details may be obtained at betweenplanes.com or by phoning (815) 979-1949.
