OREGON, Ill. — University of Illinois Extension nutrition and wellness educator Marilyn Csernus will present “Beverages: Empty Calories or Not?” from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at the Ogle County Extension office, 421 W. Pines Road, Oregon, Ill.
Beverages are fun to drink, but they can be an expensive serving of empty calories. Calories in beverages are not hidden; they are often listed right on the nutrition facts label. Most people don’t realize just how many calories and other nutrients beverages can add to their daily intake. But there is good news: you have plenty of options to choose from in the beverage department.
Your beverage choices can make a huge difference in your daily diet! Take a minute to think about what you routinely drink. Do you usually have a beverage with your meals: coffee, tea, pop, milk or water? Can you recall all the beverages you drank yesterday? Most people cannot. We tend to remember the food, but not the beverages.
This class will discuss five different categories of non-alcoholic beverages: water, soft drinks, fruit/vegetable juices, milk/milk-based and functional beverages. Discuss how these beverage choices may have a direct affect on your health.
