Friday Night Flix to begin June 7 at Rockford’s Davis Park

The Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment (RAVE) Authority has revealed the details of this summer’s happenings at Davis Park, 320 S. Wyman St., Rockford.

The 2013 season of Weekends in the Park includes free family-oriented movies every Friday night, as well as concerts on select Saturdays throughout the summer.

Friday Night Flix

The fourth annual Friday Night Flix will feature large-screen movies the entire family can enjoy. The free movie showings begin at sundown on the north lawn of Davis Park.

The BMO Harris Bank Center arena floor will again be the backup location in the case of rain or inclement weather. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs if the movie is indoors.

The movie line-up for the 2013 season is as follows:

June 7 — Hotel Transylvania

June 14 — Men in Black 3

June 21 — How to Train Your Dragon

July 5 — Shrek 4

July 12 — Hunger Games

July 19 — Wreck it Ralph

July 26 — Brave

Aug. 2 — Enchanted

Aug. 9 — Pirates: Band of Misfits

Aug. 16 — Here Comes the Boom

Aug. 23 — ParaNorman

Aug. 30 — The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Select nights will also feature related programming prior to the movie to entertain families and children. The programming will take place on the south lawn of Davis Park.

Back by popular demand is the Rockford Fire Department night June 21 for How to Train Your Dragon. The Rockford Fire Department will be out in force in Davis Park to hold a variety of fun activities for kids by promoting fire safety and showing off some firefighting equipment.

VIP and private chalet rentals are also available every night of Friday Night Flix. The chalets offer catering for company outings and private parties. Contact the BMO Harris Bank Center at (815) 968-5600 for additional information about chalet rentals.

Saturday Concerts in the Park

RAVE will also host the 2013 Weekends in the Park Summer Concert Series on the South Lawn of Davis Park this summer. The first outdoor summer concert kicks off with Here Come the Mummies at 8:30 p.m., June 2. Tickets are $15 and are available at the BMO Harris Bank Center Box Office, Coronado Performing Arts Center Box Office, by calling (815) 968-5222, or any Ticketmaster Outlet.

RAVE is the board that oversees the downtown arena and Davis Park, with the mission of revitalizing downtown entertainment. The board was appointed by Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey (I) and Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen (R) in March 2010.
