Winnebago Buy Local welcomes the public to “A Totally Local Ice Cream Social” from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, July 21, at the Lombardi Club, 209 Olive St., Rockford.
“We thought, ‘What’s better on a hot Sunday afternoon than great, local, ice cream?’ and A Totally Local Ice Cream Social was born,” said Winnebago Buy Local Executive Director Lauren Davis. “Winnebago Buy Local LOVES local businesses, and what better way to show it in the summertime?”
Besides having great locally-made ice cream (from Rockton’s Dairy Haus), local ice cream toppings are coming from local businesses to make your favorite concoctions.
Also sponsored by The Olive Oil Experience, PCTech2U and Pampered Pet Grooming, A Totally Local Ice Cream Social will have sock-hop music from “Joe Locke Hits DJ,” Pickles The Clown, and face-painting at this fun, family-friendly event. Best of all, admission is free, but donations will be accepted to help offset the costs of promoting local businesses.
Now in its third year, Winnebago Buy Local is a not-for-profit group of more than 140 member locally-owned, non-franchised businesses based in Winnebago County.
Supporting locally-owned businesses keeps wealth in the local region while keeping Winnebago County a unique place to live, work and visit. By supporting businesses such as these, studies have shown that more of every dollar spent with them stays in the local economy, versus when spending with other types of businesses.
