‘Swashbuckling Science’ at Discovery Center July 26

Discover if a pirate’s life is for you at Discovery Center’s Swashbuckling Science Family Friday event from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, July 26. A variety of special activities will be included with museum admission.

Are you smarter than a pirate? “See” the difference an eye patch makes; design a boat to float your swag; make a compass to point the way; navigate by the stars; and craft a sailboat to catch the wind. Sample hardtack. Pirate garb encouraged, landlubbers welcome.

Discovery Center Museum is at 711 N. Main St., Rockford, and can be reached at (815) 963-6769 or online at discoverycentermuseum.org. General admission is $8 adults, $8 children 2-17 and free for members and children 1 and younger. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.
