The greater Rockford area is invited to join Carl and Dianna Cole of Sounds of Good News (SOGN) Productions and Rockford University at their first “SONGSPIRATION” Labor Day Fest to benefit the “Young Eagles Success” (YES) Club Anti-Drug, Alcohol, Violence & Crime Program of Character Development and Excellence for elementary, middle and high school students. The celebration will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 2, at the Rockford University campus Fisher Chapel, 5050 E. State St. The event is free and open to the public.
The event was inspired by the cancellations of the “On the Waterfront” and air festivals. Donations and CD proceeds will benefit the “YES” Club fall/winter program and projects. Besides “COLE and Company” (with Carl, Dianna and Andrew Cole as well as several SOGN musicians) and the “YES” Inspirational Choir, special guests throughout the evening will include: Ms. Betty Pumphrey, Dr. “T” (of Dental Dimensions), Glenn Schorsch, Paul Logli, Jermaine Robinson, David Thompson as well as regional “original” country music artist Olivia Dvorak at 7 p.m. The night will end at 8:30 p.m. with an “Open Mic” Talent Showcase.
Refreshments will be served. During the fiscal school year and summer, “YES” Club workshops are impacting more than 1,000 children monthly through the Rockford Park District at the 21st Century after-school programs at Lewis Lemon Academy, through Catholic Charities at the St. Elizabeth Center, and also through the Boys & Girls Club RHA Centers at Blackhawk, Orton Keyes and Fairgrounds. Carl Cole is also the music instructor for St. Paul Lutheran Schools. Call (815) 914-1487, e-mail MsCSOGN@aol.com or visit soundsofgoodnews.com.
