FREEPORT, Ill. — First in line for the Lindo Theatre’s “Return to the Old West Film Series” is the classic tale of The Treasure of Sierra Madre, starring Humphrey Bogart, slated for Sept. 4, with show times at both 1 and 7 p.m. Co-sponsored by Highland Community College and Stephenson County Historical Society, movie admission is $5, and tickets are available at the Lindo box office, 115 S. Chicago Ave., Freeport, Ill.
The Treasure of Sierra Madre follows Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart) and Curtin (Tim Holt) on their thrilling and dangerous adventure to the Sierra Madre Mountains in search of gold. With the old prospector Howard, played by Walter Huston, the trio faces menacing bandits and betrayal all in the name of striking it rich. The Library of Congress selected this feature film adaptation of B. Traven’s 1927 novel for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

Oct. 23 — The Searchers (1956)
Nov. 6 — The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)
Plus, a bonus movie:
Dec. 4 — Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)
This series of westerns has been selected with the assistance of Dr. Ed Finch, executive director for the Freeport Historical Museum, and Alan Wenzel, the Speech and Communications instructor for Highland Community College. There will be a brief introduction before each movie and a discussion led by Ed Finch and Alan Wenzel following the movie. Movie-goers are encouraged to stay after the movie to participate in this exchange.
