The third annual Bike For the Arts (BART), a collaborative bike ride benefiting four premier performing arts organizations — Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Dance Company, Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center and Kantorei, the Singing Boys of Rockford — will take place Saturday, Sept. 7.
Support for the event is set to break records, and organizers are encouraging those interested in participating to register in advance of the Aug. 29 early registration deadline. Funds raised through BART help support youth programming and operating costs for more than 80 cultural events that take place annually.
BART offers four exciting route options — 10-, 22-, 37- and 65-mile routes. All rides begin and end at the Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., Rockford, and travel through scenic rural Winnebago County.
In addition to the exquisite landscape, riders can enjoy musical performances and refreshments at each rest stop, reinforcing the ride’s role in supporting local arts. After the ride, participants are invited to a post-ride party at the grounds of the Riverfront Museum Park.
“We are excited to host the BART ride for the third year,” said Julie McDonough, executive director of the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and BART Committee member. “Just as biking promotes a healthy lifestyle, the arts are a vital part of our region’s health. This collaboration is a wonderful example of how we can effectively work together to achieve important goals for our community.”
