Cocktail reception accompanies RSO’s opening night Sept. 21

Staff Report

Handel’s Messiah is an acrylic and ink painting by Robert Soltau of Roscoe, Ill., based on a drawing made during the March 23 performance by the Rockford Symphony Orchestra (RSO). The coloration and design are inspired by the power and melody of the music, demonstrating the integration of the musicians, chorus and soloists.

Saturday, Sept. 21, there will be cocktail reception on the third-floor lobby at the Coronado Theatre overlooking the marquee. This will be followed by an opening-night concert by the RSO at 6:30 p.m. At 8:15 p.m., there will be gourmet dining throughout the theater with desserts and dancing at 10 p.m. There will also be a silent auction with numerous valuable items on which to bid, including an original painting by Robert Soltau commemorating the March 23 performance of Handel’s Messiah.

For tickets, call (815) 972-2938.
