Tickets for Gaelic Storm at Egyptian Theatre on sale Sept. 26
DEKALB, Ill. — The wildly popular Celtic band Gaelic Storm is once again turning the Egyptian Theatre at 135 N. Second St., DeKalb, Ill., into an Irish fest at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 26. Premium reserved seats are $37 for adults and $32 for students and seniors. Regular reserved seats are $30 for adults and $25 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the Egyptian Theatre box office, by phone at (815) 758-1225 or online at www.egyptiantheatre.org.
Gaelic Storm has been celebrating success in 2013 with its limited new release The Boathouse, which spent two straight weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums chart, making it their fifth release in a row to chart at No. 1. Their concert will feature new songs from this album, as well as fan favorites from Chicken Boxer, Cabbage and What’s the Rumpus?.
The Boathouse includes classic songs of the sea and was recorded in one whiskey-fueled week in a boathouse on the Chesapeake Bay. The songs tell a story from New York to Cork City, Liverpool to Mobile Bay, from Greenland to Hawaii — pirates, slave traders and Johnny Jack Tarrs aboard three skysail yarders and fully rigged clippers facing the dangers of the mighty whale, the roaring wind, the crashing ocean, flying cannon balls and ladies of ill-repute. The album is only available online at www.gaelicstorm.com or at the band’s live concerts.
Since their big-screen debut in the blockbuster movie Titanic, Gaelic Storm’s fan base continues to multiply with each new album, turning the one-time pub band into one of the premier touring acts in the Celtic/World music genre, performing 200 nights a year. Musically, Gaelic Storm’s compelling originals and fresh arrangements steeped in Celtic traditional melody, combined with their unique blend of world rhythms, continue to broaden the musical horizons of the Celtic music genre, creating new standards for generations to come.
The group’s ability to deftly incorporate a rock sensibility into their sound affords them rare crossover appeal. They’ve performed on the same bill with acts ranging from the Zac Brown Band and the Goo Goo Dolls, to Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett, and at events as varied as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Milwaukee’s Summerfest in recent years. Gaelic Storm blends indie-folk and world grooves with Celtic tradition to serve up an unforgettable night.
