Staff Report

Rockford Auburn Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) High School, 5110 Auburn St., presents Larry Shue’s hilarious play The Nerd Oct. 3-6.

The play follows Willum Cuthbert, a young architect living in Terre Haute, Ind., in 1984. Willum, who previously fought in the Vietnam War, owes his life to someone he never met; a man named Rick Steadman. Rick, who is more commonly known as “The Nerd,” shows up for an unexpected visit.

While at first this visit seems to be nothing more than a great moment between two friends, things suddenly take a turn for the worse when Rick is more of a nuisance than he first appears. Through a great deal of destruction and dim wit, Willum finally decides that he needs to get Rick out of his home, and is willing to do anything to make it that way.

Stage direction for the show is provided by James L. Crow with technical direction by Joselyn Ludtke.
