Katie’s Choice Book Club to discuss ‘Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter’

Online Staff Report

The Katie’s Choice Book Club selection for October is Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith.

The Book Club is hosted by Katie’s Cup, 502 Seventh St., Rockford. The discussion will be held at the coffeebar at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, and repeated at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10.

The Book Club is open to all interested people, free of charge. No pre-registration is required. Discussions are animated, thoughtful, engaging and fun.

The book has been described in this way: “While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years. Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true-life story of our greatest president for the first time — all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth and near-death of our nation.”

Books are available for purchase at Katie’s Cup or participants can bring their own copy. For more about Katie’s Choice Book Club, contact Katie’s Cup at (815) 986-0628 or (815) 914-5998.
