First Lutheran offers ‘Suites, Sonatas, and Other Treats’ Oct. 13

First Lutheran Church, 225 S. Third St., offers the first concert in its eclectic Sounds from the Sanctuary 2013-14 series when it presents “Suites, Sonatas, and Other Treats” at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, at the church. Performing will be artists Richard Evans, cello, and Kristin Richards Nelson, piano.

Evans, an active freelance cellist, performs regularly with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra. A member of The Music Academy of Rockford faculty, he earned his master’s degree in cello performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Nelson, a pianist from age 5, holds a bachelor of music in piano performance and master of music in piano pedagogy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She maintains piano studios at The Music Academy and at home.

The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received and a reception will follow.
