The Greater Rockford Italian American Association (GRIAA) invites the public to its annual Italian Hall of Fame and Special Recognition Awards Banquet Oct. 12 at Franchesco’s Restaurant, 7128 Spring Creek Road, Rockford.
The evening begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. with entertainment provided by the Vince Chiarelli Combo, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The dinner menu includes a combination of chicken, sirloin and fish, or a vegetarian crepe with accompanying salad, pasta and cannoli cake. Every year, local area outstanding Italian Americans are inducted into GRIAA’s Hall of Fame to honor their many contributions to their communities. This prestigious group of men and women is composed of Italian Americans who have shown a tremendous amount of dedication and leadership. Special recognition awards are given as well in the arts, business, sciences, government, industry and education, among others, to honor accomplishments in these fields of endeavor. Nominations are received from the public and are chosen by a GRIAA committee.
The Greater Rockford Italian American Association (GRIAA) has been a volunteer organization for nearly 40 years and is dedicated to the preservation of the Italian heritage and its traditions in America. GRIAA volunteers undertake numerous projects throughout the year, most notably the Italian Hall of Fame Banquet and Festa Italiana, Rockford’s longest-running festival.
